| Seven Tips for Effective Tradeshow Giveaways |
-
Your giveaway items should be designed to effectively and clearly
promote your message. The item itself should also fit well with your
line of business or the message conveyed.
-
There are thousands of different promotions that work well at
tradeshows and conventions. To select the right item you need to decide
what your objective is. Are you promoting a theme, educating your
audience, or trying to convey a specific message? Deciding what the
purpose of your promotion is will help make the product selection
easier.
-
Establish a budget for promotional items as part of your tradeshow
marketing plan. This helps the selection process by filtering out items
that are too expensive, or too cheap. Specialty items generally get
less expensive with higher quantities, and artwork and shipping can be
extra expense.
-
At many tradeshows, exhibitors have on-table freebies that anyone
walking by can grab. But behind the table, they may have more expensive
items that are reserved for booth visitors showing special interest in
their products or services. Determine ahead of time whether you want to
have special giveaway items for your preferred visitors or possibly
existing clients that stop by to chat.
-
You can have a fish bowl that visitors put their business card into and
in return receive a premium item. Maybe you have a demonstration for
interested visitors that may justify a reward. Promotional items are
better remembered if the receiver has interaction with the giver. For
this reason, avoid leaving them on the table for anyone to take.
Encourage visitors to interact and offer them a giveaway for their
time.
-
If your tradeshow requires registration, the promoter will have a list
of participants. Use this list to mail a coupon for a higher-end
promotional item if they stop at your booth. You get double the
impressions on the visitor and they receive a memorable incentive for
stopping by.
-
If you have a specific theme or message for the trade show, choose an
item that follows that message. For example, if you are a swimming pool
installer, give away rubber ducks with your business information
imprinted on them. One of the most effective ways to keep your
promotion visible is to gear it towards children. Visitors often visit
booths just to "pick up something for the kids". These items stick
around a long time and when it comes time for those visitors to put in
a pool, they've read your name literally hundreds of times while give
their kids a bath.
